Our Story
National Music Academy began in 1995, when founder and principal Gianni Michelini began teaching guitar lessons from his home. Back then, the focus was on providing amazing, personalised lessons for every single student, while Gianni’s mother would make each student waiting for their lesson feel like family with a warm smile and a plate of home-cooked spaghetti.
In the last 24 years, National Music Academy has grown to become one of the largest providers of music tuition in Newcastle and the Hunter, with the same focus on being dedicated to providing the best possible education to each student, and making every student and parent who walks through our doors feel like they are part of our family.
Our philosophy is simple – teach students to become musicians, not just to be able to play songs on their instrument. We want our students to learn music theory, technique, repertoire and performance in a way that is relevant to their goals, interests and level. While many others may claim to do this, 25 years of experience is the basis of the National Music Academy difference.
We now have over 400 students across Newcastle, Maitland and Lake Macquarie. We have hand-selected 30 of the best teachers in the area and trained them in this NMA philosophy of teaching the best music education with the passion and love that we would show to our own family.
